I seem to remember the trailer going to a museum, and retiring the number would prevent others from using the number.

A summary of the thread on the WBCCI Facebook group goes......

The trailer was sold and moved to Siesmore RV Museum last year. They didn't register the trailer with WBCCI, the number became free, and was (innocently) allocated to a new member. They posted on FB they had been given the number (again totally innocently). Other members noted it was the Holman trailer number. WBCCI contacted the new member and requested the number back, then issued the new member a different number so the number could be retired, which lead to the OP posting here that #1935 was being retired and a dedication to Dr Holman being added to the original FB post.

The 'right thing' happened in the end, but it seems crazy to have gone the route it took.

Not surprising since the number is issued to the owner, not the trailer. But it was justice that it came out correctly.

Floatingair is that new WBCCI member and I was not requested to relinquish my number to a dead person or to a kit made Airstream.

I decided to relinquished the WBCCI #1935 because it was the right thing to do.

your remark "Kit made Airstream", sounds a bit negative, Why so? They all were that originally.
That thing is an icon in the history of the brand .

Sorry for the harsh word choice. My first set of WBCCI numbers on my first Airstream was a day I wanted for a very long time. So, I post my new numbers on Facebook and another member notice they were used by a very respected WBCCI member.
WBCCI bi-laws: when membership falls in default of membership payment, their assigned membership number becomes available.
His fathers Airstream was not a kit but was plans sold by Airstream. The son, who was a member of WBCCI for very long time who honored & befriended plenty of members in his life died. So his member number was put onto the new members list.
The current WBCCI president call and asked if I would relinquish the my number to honor the father, son and the Airstream.
WBCCI has removed #1935 from the choice list & dedicated the number to honor the doctor and his Airstream.
It was just the right thing for me to do.
I now have a new number.

Is it just me or does that 1935 look like a Basecamp?

Mollysdad, You have discovered the Airstream Evil Plan! They clearly used the 1935 as a baseline in the design process when developing the BaseCamp! Now their next challenge is to design a fiberglass trailer that looks like an Airstream. Oh wait They just bought one! My Bad! Ed
