Hello Everyone,

I've read many a post on here bashing this and that org. Maybe some of it is founded, maybe some of it is not.

But, I've obtained an old copy of Wally Byam's book, "Trailer Travel, Here and Abroad, the New Way to Adventurous Living." I recommend everyone on here get a copy of this book and read it.

I know Pee Wee has lived it. And that is awesome. But for those of us who haven't had the pleasure to actually caravan with Wally, this book is a great read.

At any rate, the point of my post comes from page 195 of the book. I quote:

"EACH TRIP HAS A SPECIAL GROUP OF PEOPLE AND A QUALITY OF ITS OWN. NOW THAT WE HAVE LONG SINCE LICKED THE TECHNICAL ARRANGEMENTS OF TRAVELING TOGETHER (note: this quote is 5 years after the first caravan and Wally has worked out the logistics of moving a big group of trailers from here to there) AND ARE WARMLY RECEIVED WHEREVER WE GO, WE CAN CONCENTRATE ON GETTING TO KNOW EACH OTHER AND THE INHABITANTS OF THE AREAS WE VISIT, LEARNING THINGS AND HAVING FUN. IN THE LAST ANALYSIS, THAT'S WHAT CARAVANNING IS FOR..."

That, my friends, sums it all up.

Take care, and I'll see you on the road.

Well, after a couple of phone conversations, yesterday I met face to face with Dick McIntire-hope I am spelling his name correctly. He is the one of the youngest AS'rs you'll find. A wonderful personality, a pay it forward attitude, and a work ethic that'd make ya blush. Dick is a premier AS clear coat refinisher located in Oregon. there have been other posts about his work. I took my 85 excella for him to look at and came away with a new(er) sense of pride in the old beast (not a vintage trailer, but old, none-the-less). He really doted on the trailer I have. Dick has been associated with AS's for many, many years. He has worked extensively in both the California and Ohio Factories and everywhere in between. He can spin 40 years of interesting tales of AS in a 2 hour visit. Worth every minute. He told me he'd be 75 years of age in November-a hearty Birthday Greeting from me in advance. He's a few minutes off of I5 near Monroe, OR (North of Eugene, South of Corvallis-in the heart of Oregon College Country-Both OSU and UO-maybe that's what keeps him young!) You can reach him at 805-264-0972-stop by and get a tour of the Longbranch Cafe/Saloon and enjoy some time with an AS legacy!
Thanks for a nice visit Dick!
ol' Bill
