I live just 2 hours from Atlanta and about 1/2 hour from Greenville, SC I bought the small old AS and now I need to get it to SC. If it has brakes, the owner doesn't know about it. He did say that the tires were good and that he has towed it fine without trailer brakes.

Hello everyone. I'm new here and new to camping with an RV. I've been camping all my life in tents and backseats. Now that I'm married and have a 19 month old, we want to get out and enjoy this earth and be a family. I think we can build memories that will last a lifetime. We anticipate another kid or 2 over the next several years.

My question is, what do you guys recommend as a good starter camper, that we won't outgrow too quickly? The bigger the better, I guess. I have an F350 so I can pretty much pull whatever. I will be buying a used older one. From what I've seen I could get a nice redone 29 footer for about $9000. I'd like to stay under $12000 if I could. Please give me some advice on camper size, years to look for and any issues there might be. There is so much to learn about these things. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Matt

First, I wanted to thank everyone who contributes to this wonderful forum, it has helped me tremendously during all my hand wringing to figure out what Airstream was going to work for me and my husband.

We've decided on a not so new 2007 Ocean Breeze. It is new in the sense that it has never been used, but it has been sitting on a lot for over two years.

After much thought on a towing vehicle (with exhaustive readings of the very thorough forum on this subject), I've settled on a Toyota Tundra Crew Cab. Never thought I'd own a truck, but after much deliberation, it really seems to be the best option (the 80/20 rule was the clincher...with 7000# to tow, I think it will be just fine no matter what we put in it). I'm keeping my small SUV btw, since I don't think I can drive a monster on a regular basis. But a truck will help with all the yard work that I do....

On the hitch side, I'm leaning towards the Propride. I live in South Florida and the drivers down here are CRAZY, so we will need all the help we can get on the safety side.

If all goes as planned, we will take delivery before Christmas and go on a short getting acquainted tour. I'm so excited since I'll be able to travel with our baby (my sheltie -- pic included)

We are so excited to be able to explore our wonderful state of Florida!:bb: Don't think we will make it out of Florida for quite some time since this is a really LONG state.

I'm looking forward to meeting some of you on the road! Thanks again for all of the information. It has been invaluable.

We have bought a 2000 34 Limited with Sofa SO and have had it renovated including new drapes. I listed the drapes which came in it on the forums for sale. They are in excellent condition, cream with a khaki border. I received an email from someone who said they wanted to purchase them for the price of $500 which was the price I listed them for. I paid $125 to have them porfessionally cleaned.
They have sent me a "cashiers" check for $1500 and emailed me to wire the "extra" $1000 to an address in the UK. The bank said it was very possibly a scam and the check which I have deposited likely would come back but it could take 3 weeks to know. I have email the people to say that I can not send the $1000 to them until the bank confirms that the money is good funds.
I will be listing the drapes on the forums again!

I don't know if I can forestall foreclosure for 2 1/2 more years until my youngest graduates from high school. I would be satisfied to live in one of my Airstreams; for 10 years of higher education, I lived in in nearly impoverished circumstances. But, my kids don't like that idea. Fortunately or unfortunately, I have been able to give them a relatively lavish lifestyle, but the economic situation and some bad investments have really put me down. I'm not bitter; so many have suffered much more. And I have been incredibly blessed as a single parent with 3 adopted children. I also have a good job, good health, and good kids, so I have a lot to be thankful for. I am a Sunday School teacher, and there is nothing like difficult circumstance to strengthen ones faith in God's providence.

Take today, for example. I tended a grandchild starting at 6 a.m., worked in an intense job setting from 8:30 to 5 p.m., worked on AS with my daughter's boyfriend from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., cooked dinner and ate, then settled my grandchild and settled in for some R&R, review of my budget, computer study after that. That's the everyday schedule. The grandchild is nearly 2 and is not with me all the time, but I love having her.

I actually have 7 vintage Airstreams in various stages of repair/disrepair: two '59s(Caravanner, Tradewind), a '63(Globetrotter), a '67(Sovereign), 2 '68s(Ambassador, Tradewind), and a '69(Sovereign). So, you wonder, if I can't pay my house payment, why buy an Airstream. Well, none of my Airstreams cost anything close to my house payment. Secondly, I enjoy the renovation work. It keeps my mind off my daily work, which is intellectually and emotionally intense. Third, I really like antiques of all kinds. Finally, I plan to restore an AS for each of my children over time. They can live in them, work out of them, enjoy leisure time in them. But if you want to buy one, let me know. My neighbors and kids would be glad to see them go.

This is good news for Alabama Airstream owners as we now have a service center nearby. Their website is www.dandyrv.com. There is also a Camping World located in the same building. We've used Dandy's RV Service Center in the past and were treated very well.
