I am looking for a 'hold back' for the door handle of a 1947 Van Nuys Liner.

Does anyone have one or know where I can get one?

In...]]> I am now turning to the issue of entry door on my 53 Flying Cloud. I have started a new thread on the forums to hopefully draw more people than just the people reading my restoration thread.

In the pictures below, you can see the original knob and lock that the trailer came with. The door within a door had to be trimmed to fit this setup. My door's current lock specifications are 1.5" thick, 2 1/8" back set, and 2 3/8" escutcheon. The two locks that VTS sells work for my door thickness and the escutcheon size, but the back set is required to be 2 3/8" or 2 3/4".


The metal piece that the door knob and deadbolt are attached to will be replaced due to the door opening in transit sometime in its' lifetime, and is damaged along with the door frame. It is conceivable that I could move my back set to the required 2 3/8" or 2 3/4" back set, but that would push me further into the door within a door. Anyone have ideas other than using one of the two vintage knobs? It is set up for knob with separate deadbolt below. The locks appear to have a 4 3/4 to 5" setback. [see pictures] In searching the forums, I dont see any reference to this set back dimension. Therefore it is not sealing properly. On the hinge side of the door there is a gap of 3/8" at the top and /1/8" at the bottom. There may be .010" slack in the hinge pins but nothing that would cause the door to "sag" the way it does. The hinges are tight to the door and tight to the frame. I can grab the top right corner of the door and push and pull on it and it doesn't move.
The hinges look like they are made of cast aluminum and have 2 bolts on each hinge holding them to the door frame. I can't tell how the hinge is actually attached to the door.
