I think I might be crazy, but I'm really wanting to rescue a couple cats. I've got 2 rescue dogs (lab mix and Aussie) - originally I had planned to bring them camping but it hasn't really worked out. The lab mix is way too excitable and it's difficult and stressful for everyone when she goes into a tail-wagging frenzy trying to say hi to everyone who walks by, knocking down our canopy in the process, you get the picture. Then the Aussie loves our family but is stranger aggressive.

So we put the dogs in the kennel in the country (we call it going to doggy camp) when we go camping. Everyone's happy.

But I miss having some cats around. I used to have 3 cats, but it's been 3 years since I had a cat around.

Which got me to thinking..... (it's dangerous when I start thinking. that's why we have an Airstream in the first place, and 2 dogs, and so on....) I'd like to adopt a couple rescue cats.

I want a pair that have to be adopted as a unit - I had 2 boy cat buddies in the past and it's the sweetest thing.

I've found 2 boys, siblings, that I'm falling in love with (and I haven't even met them at their foster home yet!). They were found as abandoned kittens with their mom, and were adopted out last year but had to come back to rescue because unfortunately their adoptive mother is now terminally ill and in palliative care. She'd love to see them placed in a good home. And I'm a sucker for a sob story.

I'm hoping I can integrate them into the house with patience and as much calmness as can be achieved. But I'm also hoping I can take them camping with me.

Anyone have decent experience taking cats along on camping trips? My husband thinks I'm crazy but I'm sure that it can be done relatively easily.

Here they are (aren't they cute?)

Our 80 pound chocolate lab was locked inside the trailer along with the trailer keys. My husband and I both tried to fit through the outside storage access door which opens into the hallway. We were able to knock open the inside cabinet front and see the dog, but neither of us could wiggle through. We called our 8 year old grand-daughter on her way to school to come to the rescue. She has a large yellow lab,so was not afraid of ours. She was small enough and brave enough to get inside and open the door.We were out of State at a family funeral, parked in my in-laws driveway. When my husband went into their house he didn't take his keys or cell phone with him (big mistake). When I joined him later, I shut the door and it locked! It could have been a huge problem if we were at a campground, with no phone numbers, no keys, and in our PJs.We will have another set of keys made, and now we know that if we ever get locked inside the trailer that we can get outside by lifting the mattress and bedboard then push out the storage access door.Sometimes it takes a scare to learn a lesson or two.I hope others can learn from our mistake and prepare ahead for a similar mishap!

Our dear old dog, Thunder, went to heaven yesterday. Our hearts are literally broken in two and the house is empty without hearing the clicking of his nails on the wood floor.

We were so blessed to have a dog like him for a little over 15 years. He sure loved his people and would always want to be by my side. His old body got real tired and things started giving out on him.

He went peacefully and the Vet is keeping him until some of the snow melts this week so we can bring him home and bury him on his hillside that he loved so much.

It's such a shame that our beloved pets can't live as long as we do. The love from Thunder was unconditional.
