Can any of our Northern members offer any ideas? I have enough airmiles and some hotel bennies that could make the trip fairly inexpensive. And we have the time - a week max, though (after all, how long can us southerners sit around and wait for weather to cooperate?) But I want to have a good bet that the trip would be successful.

So what do you think?
Anyone have any old car license plates they do not want? Boy is doing a class geogrphy or social studies project and they are trying to gather 1 plate from every US state (although if they got some from Europe, Austrailia or Canada that'd be pretty cool). They have CT, VT, KY and WA so far.

I don't really want to buy them but I will pay for mailing. Post here or send me a pm if you feel the desire to help out a budding 8 year old Airstreamer get through school.
Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Last weekend we had plans to go to Chattanooga, TN because our sons were rowing in the Head of the Hooch. This is the second largest rowing regatta held in the US each year. Very big deal for Chattanooga.

We had been trying to figure out a way to take the Airstream and just could not make it feasible. So, at a late date I was trying to book a hotel. My search for nice hotels came up empty handed. Ditto for the mid-range. I called direct, used on-line travel services and on-line hotel sites. Nothing.

So, I lowered my expectations and distance from down-town. The only TN hotel vacancy that came up was at a Country Hearth Inn & Suites. The name was nice, the website was nice, but the price was scary. Less than $40/night.

I was desperate and booked a room.

When we arrived on Friday night I as on the computer trying to find a room as soon as we pulled into the parking lot. It was that bad.

We decided to check in anyway. There was a lot of construction. We passed abandoned cars in the parking lot. The security door was broken, there was trash in the halls and elevators. It smelled like smoke even in our "Non-smoking" room. We wouldn't even sit on the bed! Out came the computer and, thank goodness they had free wi-fi. We booked a Holiday Inn Express in GA and left without checking out.

We met a couple cleaning rooms on our way out (I think they were the owners) and they were surprised we were checking out so fast. I guess it was a quicker than usual turn around even for this hotel!

We left laughing and Dave Dubbed it the Country Vampire Inn. I added "Where you check in, but never check out."

We have another "hotel" weekend coming up and I hope we do not have a repeat performance.

We sure prefer bringing our own accommodations with us!

This November 11th, is a special day for all Americans.

We give many thanks to those that have or presently are in the military, serving our country, for the benefit of everyone.

A visit to the Arizona Memorial, in Hawaii, still brings tears to most visitors eye's, even today.

The remaining oil, on board the sunken hull, is still coming to the surface, faster and larger than it every has, sometimes enough to be able to smell it.

The Arizona parkland has been sinking, therefore there is construction underway, for a completely new parkland and visitors site.

The nice part of that, is that all the money needed for the construction, is already in hand. No borrowing is needed.

That money came from people from all walks of life, to keep the Arizona Memorial going, as a reminder to all of us, Lest we forget.

The battleship Missouri, is now in dry dock, for some needed hull repairs and is expected to be once again docked next to the Arizona Memorial, by the end of January 2010.

Let's please remember our vets and our Memorials always, but especially this Veteran's Day, November 11th.
