New Mexico Airstream Unit # 69 - Punkin Chunkin Rally – Estancia NM
October 16 – 18, 2015- Marshall & Flordemayo Hosts
The rally will be held on Marshall’s and Flordemayo’s property at 12 Beeman Circle Estancia, NM. This is a dry camping event, so please plan accordingly. There will be water available.

Punkin Chunkin’ is best described as hurling festive orange gourds as far as possible by mechanical means, using various specialized homemade devises – trebuchets, giant slingshots, centrifugals, and the exciting supercharged pneumatic cannons. What a hoot to watch! Each type of machine competes in their own category for distance and also accuracy. Special types of thick skinned pumpkins are used and they’re all close to the same size and weight. The pumpkin must leave the machine intact, and if that isn’t the case…they call it “pie” for obvious reasons (pumpkin pie, pie in the sky!).

• Friday, October 16 – arrive and set up any time after 12 noon. Dinner on your own, Bella Notte, is a great Italian/Pizza restaurant right in Estancia - Happy Hour and Marshall’s magnificent fire ring at 7PM
• Saturday, October 17 – 10 AM for those that wish to participate, pull your Airstream in the Punkin Chunkin parade, decorate for Halloween, bring candy to toss to the children. Lunch on your own, tour the Punkin Chunkin Event Grounds. 5 ish, Happy Hour, 6 ish Pot Luck Dinner

If you would like your T-shirt to be available for the November rally please order through Joanne Palmer, (palmrranch@aol.com) no later than October 1st. Sizes available, SM, M, LG, XL. The NMU is subsidizing a portion of the cost. Interesting factoid, the logo on the back of the T-shirt is the original logo of the unit. So that logo has a lot of history and has been around over 50 years.

Moraine View State Park near Bloomington in central Illinois has a nice lake for paddling and fishing. Bring your boats. If you'd like to paddle but don't have a canoe/kayak, the park has rentals available.

If you're not a paddler, there's still plenty to do. The park has some nice hiking trails and horseback rides. Hopefully we'll be in the first stages of fall color.

We'll do some kind of potluck both Friday and Saturday evening. It could be a chili dump, fish fry, etc. The rally is in the preliminary planning stages at this point.

What's important is that you go to ReserveAmerica.com and secure a campsite. We're trying to fill in the small loop by the lake which includes P13-P23 on the outside, and F1-F9 on the inside.
