The Four Corners Unit of WBCCI announces a new rally with a twist — a Southern New Mexico “progressive” rally in late September. We will convene at City of Rocks State Park, North of Deming, NM, for two nights and then caravan south to Pancho Villa State Park in Columbus, NM, near the Mexico border for an additional two night stay. There will be an optional walk-over-the border lunch at The Pink Store in Las Palomas, MX, and their famous Margaritas (while you shop)!
City of Rocks features an unexpected and fascinating volcanic geological formation with easy hiking, spectacular sunsets and dark skies for star gazing at the park observatory. Pancho Villa State Park includes an exhibit hall and historic structures, capturing the history of the 1916 Pancho Villa Raid on Camp Furlong.
Rally Fee:
$12/Rig with a 20-Rig Limit
Camping Notes:
Attendees are responsible for their own camping fees, paid directly to the parks.
At City of Rocks camping is $10/night for dry camping and $14/night for water/electric sites. You only need to make a reservation at City of Rocks if you wish to have one of a limited number of water/electric sites. There are restrooms and showers. The park gates close daily from 9pm – 7am. We have reserved the Orion Group Area & Shelter which has a few electric outlets if needed. There are no fire restrictions in place at the moment (subject to change) and we will have access to a group fire pit. Please bring wood, as the par does not always have dry wood for sell. Water is available, but there is no dump station at City of Rocks.
At Pancho Villa all the sites have water & electricity, except for a few with water only. The sites are $14/night for electric/water sites. There are a handful of reserveable sites, but no reservations should be necessary unless you are more comfortable having a solid reservation. There are no gate closures at Pancho Villa. We have reserved the Recreation Hall at Pancho Villa and will have access to the kitchen. Restrooms and showers are available. There are no fire restrictions in place at the moment (subject to change), but there is no group fire pit, so we will plan to gather at one of the campsite fire rings. They do not sell firewood at Pancho Villa so please bring firewood if you can. There is a dump station at Pancho Villa. The fun will include an optional walk-over-the-border visit to Las Palomas for lunch and shopping at The Pink Store— an institution of some reknown. A current passport will be required for return to the US if you walk across the border into Mexico.
