UPDATE: The launch date has been rescheduled due to conflict with Russian Progress docking/undocing at the space station. The new launch date is April 29 at 3:47 pm. Due to this change in launch date, I will not be able to host the rally. However, I still encourage you to join in the fun at KARS park and reserve a site to view the launch!

Please join me at the KSC Employee recreation park to witness the final flight of OV-105 – Space Shuttle Endeavour. She is set to launch on Tuesday, April 19, at 7:48 pm.

KARS Park is hosting a Camp-N-View celebration for this launch. This is a private park but they are allowing family & friends of KSC employees to camp for this event. On launch day, they will have astronaut appearances, NASA educational displays and a BBQ.

This is a small campground on the west bank of the Indian River. It is about 12 miles southwest of launch Pad 39-B at KSC. The view is somewhat obstructed by the tree line but the view, especially a night launch, is very good from the fishing pier.

The Rally Package fee is $10 for each site/participating RV and will include an assortment of mission unique memorabilia. If you are interested in this Package, please state this in the Comment section when you RSVP on the Rally Event Page. You can pay me at the rally. If there is something specific that you would like me to purchase for you at the NASA Exchange (mission t-shirt, mug, jacket, patches, etc) let me know via PM.

You will need to pay in full, in advance. No refunds due to launch delay.

The cost for RV parking is $40/night for riverfront sites, $30/night for all others. This includes power/water and an on-site dump station. Tent camping is $10/night. I anticipate them to offer boondocking for the same fee – though it probably won’t be available until all RV sites are filled.
Reservations will fill fast. The number of nights reserved will begin on the day of arrival. This sounds like a SNAFU in the making… this park does not normally take reservations - experience tells me to be prepared for confusion and change of site. I suggest you bring your patience, be equipped for boondocking and be primed for a crowd. KARS is also allowing public entry/vehicle parking on the day of launch so there will be a lot of folks on the property!

I will try to plan some activities but it will be more difficult due to the mass of visitors in the area. Suggestions welcome.

We are interested in the package. We are also excited about this opportunity. Saw discovery launch from the beach here in Melbourne. We missed not being in KARS. rtaylor537@mac.com
