Cupboards going back in at last!

Posted 11-23-2010 at 04:03 AM by dave f (1956 Overlander: 26' of iconic family fun. Potentially.)

Some snaps from the end of last week.

Re-using the original framework where possible, refacing cupboards with oak-faced blockboard (stained as antique pine), edging doors with aluminium, reusing all the old hinges, handles etc. A brand new detail is the shiny aluminium radius corner on the cupboard just by the door - adds a little bling and creates a beautiful full length larder door with integral larder shelves. Very pleased with that. Individual 3mm red LEDs are going in here and...

Dinette going in

Posted 11-13-2010 at 04:02 PM by dave f (1956 Overlander: 26' of iconic family fun. Potentially.)

Well, a bit of a slow summer what with holidays and a few distractions. Missed a trick not arranging for rubber flooring well in advance - cost us an extra month. Things moving along again now with decisions made for internal materials and soft furnishings. Also, we hear the fridge is still in good working order which is amazing!

Alas decided we can't really save any of the original internal wood. I mean we COULD but it seems pointless as it would take longer, cost more and ultimately...

Four wheels back on my wagon

Posted 09-06-2010 at 09:39 AM by dave f (1956 Overlander: 26' of iconic family fun. Potentially.)
Updated 09-06-2010 at 09:46 AM by dave f (adding axle pic)

After a 3 week break, we're back:
•*Phelonic ply floor is in
•*New glass (slight tints) and seals on all the windows
• New axles, same old wheels back on for now.
• Euro hitch conversion, awaiting brake cable.
•*Polished up 3 x high-level cupboards - one for kitchen, 2 for above rear beds. Replacing originals which were thin ply and nasty. These are from a '58 and much much better. Plan to make sliding doors with retro style Formica.
• also decided on floor...

New belly and axles

Posted 08-06-2010 at 08:28 AM by dave f (1956 Overlander: 26' of iconic family fun. Potentially.)

A few more pics showing progress as of yesterday.

Nice shiny new belly going on. Fitting the front was proving to be a bit fiddly.

Torsion axles ready for welding on next week - that's George talking to Darren about how the EUR hitch conversion will work.

Windows have all been taken out, new glass with slightly tinted vinyls being added. We decided privacy glass would be good - vintage airstreams attract rather a lot of attention. Bit of a shame as it...

Leaf or Torsion?

Posted 07-28-2010 at 02:51 AM by dave f (1956 Overlander: 26' of iconic family fun. Potentially.)

Looks like leaf replacement will be rather expensive so Darren suggesting converting to torsion to save £200.

Shame - really liked the look of Ken J's set up (his lovely '58 project is my inspiration).

BUT with our budget, we have to make savings where we can. Spent hours trying to read up on the pro's and cons of one set up vs the other. Baffling amount of information in the forums. Will discuss with Darren later.
