Streaming thru America

Why Am I Doing Life the Way I Am Doing It?

True, I am nearing age 50 and maybe it is a midlife crisis so to speak; however, I cannot shake the feeling of how utterly ridiculous it is to be so excited to have 3 days this week/month/quarter in a row of life to call my own.

Seriously??

We as a society are so thrilled to be allowed 3 consecutive days of life to do with what we please. We all race out the door to bully each other off the road to pick up the kids, to rush to a wonderful weekend vacation, to come back...

Lizards and Grand Vistas at Colorado National Monument

It is easy to overuse adjectives when describing the Colorado National Monument: Amazing, Dramatic, Beautiful, Stunning, Serene, Soulful, Sacred. This unique place is a treat for the eyes and nourishment to the soul. More photos here.

Golden Gate State Park, Colorado

With an unseasonably warm forecast for the next few days, we made Golden Gate Canyon State Park our weekend destination and gave winter camping a second try. This is one of the closest Colorado state parks to the Denver-Boulder metro area, and it can be hard to find a site on the weekends during prime camping season. However, during the winter, it is a great destination for peace and solitude. The campground is quiet, and sites are easy to come by.

Winter Camping in the Shadow of Pike's Peak

On a whim and with a nice weekend forecast, we packed the camper after work and headed out to Mueller State Park for our first real winter camping experience in an Airstream. It was about a two and a half hour drive to our destination, so we arrived under starry skies well after dark around 10 p.m.

The campground was completely empty. Apparently we were the only people in the entire Denver and Colorado Springs metro areas that thought camping in the middle of February at 9500...
