Original Dometic Refigerator purrs like a kitten

Posted 12-23-2008 at 06:28 AM by SSTANK05

I cleaned the burner and flue and did the burp procedure on the original Dometic MC 16 refrigerator in my 1965 Caravel and she now purrs like a kitten. Thermostat works,
48 hour bench test and the inside temp was 36-40 degrees and solid ice cubes overnight. The fridge has not been operated in 3 plus years. I am in need of a couple of parts for the refrigerator - the bottom shelf that slides onto the inside door panel and the flint lighter. See my Wanted Ad just posted in the classifieds -wanted parts.

I have questions too, where did you get the info on how to clean the burner and flue and how to burp and what is that? We have the old dometic also and have no idea if it works, we plugged it in and nothing happened. We heard no noise at all. We have not tried it on gas yet.

dreasydreame: You won't hear any noise. There is no motor. It could take 4-6 hours before you feel the freezing action in the freezer compartment. Check circuit breaker. Make sure the switch in the back is in the electric position. Take a night light and plug it into the socket to determine if you are getting el. there. Check plug to see if the wires are OK Switch the plug to that socket or by pass and connect directly with extension cord. Trailer should be level of course. Last resort check connection at frig.
