Life in the Slow Lane - Golden, CO Day 3

Posted 07-16-2014 at 11:10 PM by silverlabs

Playing catch up, yet again, thanks to the infamous campground WIFI.

The weather cleared enough for a morning walk with the dogs around the campground. As I rounded one corner where I knew an AS was I saw that their TV was a Raptor. This is my hubs' dream combination! He has been so disappointed that the weight combination doesn't work for the AS and other vehicles that we tow. I chatted a bit with the owners and tried to ask the questions I thought he would ask.

Eventually, I gave up and just asked if I could send him over. They agreed and I rushed back to the trailer. Sadly, they were not out when he went by. As we were leaving for the day he drove by again and they were back out. So, we had a lovely conversation with them, the guys talked all things towing and I had a nice conversation with his wife. Turns out they are from Minnesota and went to the same university our good friends and their daughter did. Their AS is new like ours and also a 25FC. The hubs started out his day very happy!

We visited Vail on Day 3. It is just as beautiful as ever. The flowers are gorgeous and the color combinations and varieties they put together in countless beds and containers just blows my mind. I could spend all day just looking at ideas and inspirations but the hubs would be so bored!

One of my dreams was to enjoy a wonderful meal on the patio of a dog friendly restaurant WITH my dogs and I am happy to say....mission accomplished! We ate at the Vail Chophouse. The waitress brought water for us when we sat down and a bowl of water for the dogs. We both chose the same item from the menu, which we don't normally do, and had a salmon sandwich with jalapeņo cured bacon on it. Yum!

We had a great spot for people watching at the base of a gondola. It was great practice for the pups as we plan to eat at sidewalk cafes in Vancouver and Whistler as well when our girls join us. The only thing that gave Darci a start was the random mountain biker wearing pads and a helmet. I'm sure she thought they were monsters. She was remarkably composed and didn't bark at them but you could tell she really didn't like them.

After lunch we decided to walk the half mile to Vail Village. We didn't know it until we got there but there was a food festival sponsored by The Food Network magazine. It was packed with people and food and turned out to be a great test for the dogs. They just plodded along next to us as if they did it every day. A random hand or child would dart out from the crowd to pet them and they handled it with ease.

We stopped by Super Dave's house in Silverthorne on the way back. He has a gorgeous log cabin overlooking the golf course. He is such an interesting person and a great conversationalist. He hunts with the hubs and Darci so it was good for her to see a familiar face. Dave mentioned that 20 people a year die from lightning strikes in the rockies. Wow!

That evening we were able to meet another AS owner. The AS is a 30 (I think) slide out and we had been hoping to find them outside. The rain held off so many people were out enjoying the evening. Turns out this is their fourth AS. They have sold all of their prior ones within 24 hours of putting them up for sale. The slide out seems like the deal of a lifetime to me. It is a 2007 and had been used so little that only a half a tank of propane was gone. It was stored in climate controlled storage all this time. Wow!
