No slides, extra dirt.

Parking an aging Airstream next to a gleaming new behemouth can be a daunting, sometimes humbling experience.
Generally a proud Airstream owner, I have to admit that every now and then it's tempting to feel like a poor second cousin parked in the shade of one of these rolling palaces.
I pulled in to a rest area recently with trailer in tow. I'd been traveling for several days and the road grime on the front of the trailer was appearant. After a stretch and wander through the rest area it was time head out but my trailer was no where to be seen. With some substantial chagrin, I realised that a large motorhome had parked nearby, blocking my view of the trailer. As I rounded the corner of the motorhome, I heard the conversation of it's occupants...
"Would you look at that.. dirty little thing isn't it? Too bad it's not a little bigger with a a couple of slides, but it sure is cute... I wonder where the grown ups sleep. Come on - let's get a move on, we need to make the casino by dinner time. The buffet opens at five .."
My road weary trailer may not be the biggest rig around but it never sleeps in the parking lot of a casino or in the shade of a neon sign. Destinations with more rugged views and fresher air are the norm.
Perhaps a tiny trailer has to have aspirations above it's station to sit proudly in the valleys between the rolling dreadnaughts. Wearing the dirt and scars of adventure easily, comfortably, may be the mark of true beauty.
