Posted 05-10-2012 at 06:33 AM by timzog

As I work out where all the mechanical stuff will go, I keep revising the floorplan. This is the current model with colors for the sleeping areas selected by their female occupants. Assuming that all goes well, I plan to share the purple one

Dirty work!

Posted 05-07-2012 at 07:26 PM by timzog

I started removing the floor today. The toughest part was removing both of the 3/8" rusted out bolts that attach the shell to the frame in the front of the trailer. To do this, I dug out the wood subfloor around the bolt with a chisel and a screwdriver and then used a cutoff wheel to cut off the bolt. It took a long time, but it finally broke off and I could knock the bottom half out.
I used a chisel to knock a small circle of wood out around the floor screws and cut off the...

I've been doing a lot of work but haven't posted much to my blog lately. Some recent progress:

Removed old leaky plastic tail lights and patched holes with aluminum. Still need to buck in rivets but pop rivets are good enough for short term.

I'm planning on ordering round LED lights which I like better anyway and would cost less than converting the old lights to LED.

DIY Drapes - Part 8

Posted 05-06-2012 at 05:13 PM by blickcd

The project is now complete and here are some photos of the results.

Given my minimal sewing experience, I was really hesitant to even start this project but I am glad I did.

A while back I got a quote for a professionally made set of drapes for a little over $700. The set I made cost under $300 in materials. Well worth the two weeks of spare time it took me to complete.

I'd say the toughest part was all the initial planning and figuring out how much material...

DIY Drapes - Part 7

Posted 05-06-2012 at 04:23 PM by blickcd
Updated 05-06-2012 at 05:02 PM by blickcd

The second huge front drape was made with no trouble and I had just enough material left over for the center panel at the credenza side windows.

With all the drapes made it was time to install the snaps. I used a tool that was sort of like an anvil and mandrel. It worked okay but if I had to install more of these I'd spend the big bucks for the pliers style tool.

I've left the ends of my drapes a bit long and installed the snaps so the edge folded under as a return against...
