Done With Interior Panels !!!!

Posted 11-01-2009 at 05:11 PM by Clyde-2
Finally buffed and installed the last of the interior panels that I am going to remove vinyl from. Decided to do just the front endcap section for now. Also installed the newly painted front screen and window trim sections.

The PO (neighbor) showed up the the original electric jack. He removed it when he parked the trailer 25 years ago. After pulling pulling the motor apart and cleaning it up, it worked !!! Going to need a new rocker switch as it only works in one direction. Don't...

Bathroom rebuilt... mostly

Posted 10-31-2009 at 07:16 PM by Bowmans
We sealed the shower walls with a PVC textured shower board from a box store and 100% silicone sealer. Here are a couple of shots before the hall wall went on:

We put a coat of polyurethane on the walls before mounting them, then put 2 more coats while in place. Here are...

Rainy day made it look shiny!

Posted 10-30-2009 at 10:22 AM by hessehesse
This rainy day picture of "the shop" made the streamer look shiny! Okay...not exactly like some of your fix it jobs out there - but at least I have a glimpse of what it might be at some point in the future!

Layers and layers and layers of panels...agh...

Posted 10-30-2009 at 10:18 AM by hessehesse
Updated 10-30-2009 at 10:19 AM by hessehesse (dup photo)
I'm not sure how others just removed the bottom panels. Mine seem to be layered/overlapped with the top panels by at least a foot (kind of a waste!). And then those are underneath the top/ceiling panels. I can kind of bend them - but can't get to the rivets behind them...So I'm going with the real complete gut and removing all - including the ceiling. And now I've been inspired by some pretty cool renovations I've seen on-line...! Here are some panel pics for your enjoyment - though they probably...

Getting closer to the bones! Kitchen and front gutted.

Posted 10-30-2009 at 10:13 AM by hessehesse
Well - I'm finally getting closer to the bones of this beast. In these pictures you can see the kitchen is gutted - and a picture of the old heater that was disconnected awhile ago. Not sure if it works - or ever worked - but some more critters made good use of it's interior! I unscrewed the vent from the outside and with the gap started leaking water on the interior - highlighting the importance of those seems! ...here's my dog Cinque ("Chinkway") who didn't want to hang outside during...

blog post 2

Posted 10-26-2009 at 12:00 AM by Pink1
Wow I don't even have an Airstream yet and I already want a bigger one. I read a bunch of posts today and made some beef stew. I listened to my bf work around the house all day, while I napped and watched Kyle get up to 5th place. I am glad Denny won, he's cute! Eric likes Jeff, but Jeff is a loser.

Eric just walked by and looked at my avatar picture and figures you all are thinking I am the chick in the middle, nope. I am in the foreground.

This seems sort of lame...

Another Good Weekend of Progress

Posted 10-25-2009 at 04:57 PM by Clyde-2
Was able to install my new Fantastic Fan as well as the new polycarbonate skylight to replace the rotted one at the midship opening. I used the existing flat bars that the original double hulled skylight was riveted to. It lays right on them and then I mixed a good batch of JB Weld and glued it to it. I have found that paint mixing sticks work well when spreading and working Vulkem around roof penetrations.

Plan on installing a remote switch in the original style light cover for the...

Great, most of you already know what crappy writing skills I have. Now hopefully they will have a greater audience! This wee box better have spell check.

So, since I don't have an Airstream to brag about yet, I will just talk about myself.

I go to school, I know I am old but I never got the chance to go before.

I want to go to Cal.

I live with my boyfriend/fiance. We have a cat named Archimedes (yes there is spell check, sweet). He was

Drilling out rivets... simple with a few annoyances

Posted 10-22-2009 at 11:25 AM by hessehesse
So, drilling out rivets is actually really simple. What I've learned is that its easier to just let the drill to the work versus pushing hard thinking you need to "get that rivet". Let the drill to the work. Once in a while the rivet will spin (i.e. it's loose) and you simply have to angle the drill to catch an edge of the rivet.

One annoying thing is that the tops of the rivets end up collecting on the drill bit (anyone have any ideas on this?). See left picture. To...

Firing up the electrical system

Posted 10-20-2009 at 07:55 PM by Globie64
With the Globie sitting in the driveway and the Por15 drying, something compelled me to see what happened when I connected the Airstream to the house with the big black cord. I had had the battery and connections to the tow vehicle replaced, and the battery powered the lights and fans, but I was curious about the Univolt and the whole line voltage system. I got a fire extinguisher close by, opened up the connection on the back of the trailer, and connected the cable. I plugged in the other...

And behind the refrigerator are Aliens!!!

Posted 10-20-2009 at 03:18 PM by hessehesse
Did anyone see Alien/Aliens? These wasp cocoons were behind the refrigerator and scared the Dickens (or some other author) out of me! I tested one to see if one of those head snappers would pop out... luckily they had migrated to someone else's mother ship already.

And of course, there was the token left overs from years of mouse and rat parties under the refrigerator (I think this is where the teenagers
hung out).
