Interior progress - storage space galore

Posted Yesterday at 08:09 PM by Bowmans
We have been busy lately with work but found some time this weekend to work on more of the cabinets inside. In between working, I cut and put together the floating panel separation walls for the fridge side of the hall. This weekend, they were sanded and 4 of the 5 installed along with the shelving.

This is a picture of the walls in place. It took a while to get the backside...

Posted 11-20-2009 at 07:10 PM by hessehesse
Removing the stabilizers was tough..the screws were rusts. Took quite a bit of teeth gritting to get them off....

Going Back Under to Belly to Last Big Pan

Posted 11-20-2009 at 07:05 PM by hessehesse
To get some fresh air, I decided to go back under and get the last belly pan. First, let's geek out and take a look at all of these corroding rivets...woo hoo! Some of them had washers on them...was that original? ...hmmm...wonder what's underneath...can't wait to see!

How do you get the door frame thing off to get to the rivets???!!

Posted 11-20-2009 at 06:56 PM by hessehesse
Okay - I can't figure this one out. The panels go behind the metal door "frame" that looks like it should pop out. I show here where I cut around the door (yes, I was frustrated!) because the rivets for the panel are behind that frame. The other picture (not that great) shows the smaller rivets that I eventually took out - still no luck. Ideas?

Then came the panels working down from the sides...

It's all down hill from here...(famous last words)... pretty quick to remove. Luckily I didn't find any leaks, wet spots, or mold...

Layers lead me to the top layer...for removal

Posted 11-20-2009 at 06:48 PM by hessehesse
So, with all of these layers - the 1 foot overlap required me to go to the top layer first and remove from there. This is no whimpy vinyl clad aluminum. It was very stiff!

Houston we have lift off!!!

Posted 11-16-2009 at 01:09 PM by PRATTMAN (1952 - 25' Airstream Cruiser Restoration)
Great weekend of work. Mission #1 is completed because we were successful lifting the body off the frame.

This was a slow slightly sketch process using small bottle jack in tandem with adjustable jack stands.

We began by supporting the the interior body structure by fastening 2 x 4's to the interior lower body frame ribs with screws. Then by placing the jacks under these new cross supports we slowly began to lift.

As the body began to seperate, a few stubborn...

More Galley Demo

Posted 11-15-2009 at 05:56 PM by Clyde-2
Continued demolition at the galley. Removed heater. Squirrel cage is completely full of dirt dober nests but still moves freely.

Water pump fires rite up but wouldn't move any water when bench tested. Started trying to disassemble it and the pot metal bolts started breaking. Time for a new quieter one!

All copper looks good, except for one spot where it burst due to freezing I'm sure. All new hoses where needed and should be good to go.

Video Update: Hays, Kansas to Wall Drug

Posted 11-14-2009 at 10:58 AM by hoyboy

Greetings from Sonoma County, California. Melissa and I have been perched high atop vineyards at the Cloverdale KOA, which is actually one of the best campgrounds we've been to. We've been here since Wednesday night and we leave in a couple of hours for a day and a half in San Francisco. Our experience here has been just about everything we had hoped it would be, and will be the subject of a...

Cheaha State Park

Posted 11-14-2009 at 09:05 AM by SSChanger
Just back from two great days in Cheaha (CHEE-ha) State Park, about 25 miles south of Anniston, Alabama.

We stayed at the Upper Campground on top of the mountain, which, at 2407' is the highest point in Alabama. Easy parking with 43 sites available in the Upper Campground, with many pull-through and easy back-in, too. Great hiking all around. The Boardwalk, about 1/4 mile away, is a fantastic hike to a point looking toward Anniston. Visibility was 100+ miles this week. They had...

Strip Her Down

Posted 11-10-2009 at 02:24 PM by PRATTMAN (1952 - 25' Airstream Cruiser Restoration)
With delivery made by the transport company, we trailered her slowly 20 miles home. We now have begun to strip her down. Everything must go. Our mission is to remove the rottom floor and get to the frame.

After the removal of inside structure and appliance (the beautiful "Dixie" stove and the refer will be refurbished) we drilled out all the lower rivits inside and out, removed all screws then removed the lower inside skin. The C-channel is revealed. I think we are getting...
