We pulled away from the Ocala area and dropped back slightly South and West. I let the Garmin lead us through some nice, small backroads. A short pull again... 80 or 90 miles. Wanted to go back to the Homosassa and Crystal Rivers area to see if I could swim with the Manatees again, like I did several years ago. We got to the campground off of Hwy 41... driving about 15 miles East.... at least 5 on gravel... thought we'd really be in the boonies. Just before we got there we passed under I-75! The recreation area was right beside it!!! I chose the smallest and furthest back of 3 campgrounds... trying to get away from the freeway. It was fairly quiet with no hook-ups but decent showers. We drove over to Homosassa and had a nice lunch at the Crab House on the river. It had an island in the river with monkeys on it. Scouted out the Crystal River area for a place to put in the canoe for the next day. Wanted to canoe close to the Manatees and maybe be able to slip into the water with them. Next day we went back to Crystal River but the winds were blowing about 30 mph and the bays and rivers were whitecaps. Decided against canoeing. Walked around the residential areas... where the Manatee Preserve areas are in canals and channels surrounded by private homes! Not what I had in mind! We managed by see them by standing on a few small bridges in the neighborhoods. I could have taken another 'snorkel tour' on a pontoon boat like I had previously, but I was too cheap and wanted to use my own boat. Moral of the story is: ... never put off till tomorrow, what you can do today.... tomorrow may be too cold or windy! Got a few shots of snouts and ears (like hotdogs... ... backs, rumps and flukes. Caught an Osprey stooping and diving into the canal right next to the bridge we were on. Funny pictures of the boat-landing in the rec. area. Me being silly again.
