Arrived in the dark, after long day driving across NC
(the WIDEST state East of the Mississippi).
Finally found the state park in the dark,
pulled into a tight space... pitch black.
Surrounded by swamp...
on the edge of the East Dismal Swamp.
Bunny was a bit scared.
No hook-ups. cold.
Semi-OK bathrooms, not heated,
cold and damp... did not shower here.
Tues., 11/18 we day-toured...
drove to the Outer Banks...
over several causeways and bridges.
Visited Roanoke Island... museum of the 'Lost Colony'...
'Croatoan'... very interesting.
Then on to Nags Head... very 'built up'...
turned North up to Kitty Hawk and the Wright Bros. Nat'l Monument.
Then south along the coast on Hwy 264
detoured to 'Stumpy Point'....
an interesting glimpse into rural coastal life...
down to Lake Mattamuskeet... turned north on Hwy 94
visited the Nat'l Widlife Refuge of the same name...
lots of birds...
Back to camp around dusk.
