Arrived Wednesday, Dec. 3 after driving the back roads down from Okefenokee Swamp. Had to get assigned a campsite at the registration booth... no senior discounts at all in FL if you're from out-of-state. hhhmmmm. Got a half-way decent site... not the most private one available, in a not-very-private state park. Not too far to get to the beach, Wi-Fi around the camp store, snack bar closed until February. The beach was very nice with lots of shore and wading birds in the lagoon.
Hiked to the old Spanish quarry where the 'coquina' stone was mined for the fort and town houses. Found a great ABC liquor store and re-stocked...
Had a great Italian meal the first night at 'Amici's.
Spent quite a few hours the next day walking around the old and quaint park of town... seeing the 'oldest house'... 'oldest wooden school house', etc. the original city gates and Spanish Fort. Amazing history. Had a wonderful lunch at a little place in old town called Casa Maya. Really enjoyed this town and it's history... my favorite 'city' of the trip thus far.
