We left Roaring River and drove North on I-71 to Independence, MO... a little over 200 miles. We stayed at my friend Jim's house, in a fully-furnished downstairs apartment. I have known Jim most of my life... since early grade school... about 50 years now... one of my oldest and dearest friends. We spent 8 days resting., lounging and touring around Kansas City, Independence & Blue Springs with Doug, who lives nearby. I have known Doug since about 1970... nearly 40 years now. We had fun. Saw the sites and had lunch and beers in little pubs. Kansas City is much more cosmopolitan than one might think. One day we visited Union Station, another day the Arabian Museum.... a Missouri River paddleboat that sunk in 1864. It was excavated and has produced the largest collection of pre-civil war goods anywhere. The sheer amount of trade goods.... guns, boots, material, hardware, buckles, etc. etc. etc. ... is just unbelievable. There are also some original timbers, a paddlewheel and a skeleton of the only casualty... a mule tied to the stern. All 187 passengers got off alive!
We had fun visiting with dear old friends.
