Sunday, 11/23 was Bunnie's Birthday!
We pulled out of Myrtle Beach
(after doing the short trail hike through the park)...
made the short drive down the coast to Charleston.
Stopped at the Hampton Plantation along the way.
An amazing piece of history with a tour for $4 !
Built around 1625, George Washington was a guest in 1671.
He advised them not to cut down the oak in the front yard,
which blocked a clear view of the house... it's still there!
Edgar Allen Poe and others were also guests.
The house is not 'restored'... but is still amazing.
Swung around Charleston on the 526...
then North up Hwy 26 to Summerville,
found Givhans Ferry State Park.
Nice park... hookups and hot showers.... mmmmmm
Monday, 11/24 we went into Charleston and walked around.
Got hooked into listening to a schpeal from 'Vacation Station'
in exchange for tickets to the Magnolia Plantation,
Carriage Tour and $25 credit for lunch at a restaurant.
I guess it was worth the 1 1/2 hours of our precious time.
Cashed our $25 check immediately
and went and ate at the Griffon... cute English pub.
Good beer and crab cakes...
Drove back to camp in the dark.
Tuesday, 11/25 went and saw the Magnolia Plantation.
Our 'all inclusive' tickets were not! (surprise!).
They were basic admission to the grounds and gardens only.
We paid extra for the house tour, skipped the tram tour,
boat tour and the Audubon Swamp Garden. Dangit.
The house was truly amazing.
Built in 1680 and still in the same family!
Gorgeous furnishings. Amazing history.
The gardens were extensive... walked throughout.
Went through a cute petting zoo before we left.
Wednesday, 11/26 we took a short canoe trip down the Edisto River
(the longest free-flowing black-water river on the continent!
The park ranger was kind enough to spot us about 7 miles upriver for free!
along with my trusty old Mad River Explorer canoe.
Had a nice float down... but lots of houses/cabins along the way.
Thursday, 11/27 Thanksgiving...
Spent the day in camp.
Took a little hike around the camp nature trail.
Donna made Thanksgiving dinner from a Bob Evans pre-cooked Turkey & gravy meal.
Nice tasty turkey, good gravy!...
No bones, skin, knuckles, tendons, sinew, fat, etc. ... yum
She made real potatoes, had corn & cranberries
and cute little single-serving pies like pot pies
Perfect!
Much thanks for all our gifts and blessings.
Friday, 11/28 we headed out for Savannah.
