We spent four days traveling down the Natchez Trace Parkway. Nashville, TN to Natchez, MS. 40 to 50 mph speed limits, no commercial vehicles... a very relaxing, beautiful way to travel south... leisurely enjoying the passing countryside. The 'Trace' was originally an old indian trail, The government purchased right-of-passage from the Choctaw and Chickasaw nations. It was once called the 'boatman's trail'... as Mississippi river boatmen used the trail to return to Nashville after completing their trip down the river, selling their goods and barges. They walked the 440 miles back north in a month! There are 3 free campgrounds along the trace, many others just off the parkway... (private, state parks, corps of engineers, etc.) We stayed at all 3 free camps, plus got off one night near Tupelo, MS to stay at Trace State Park... recharging batteries after 5 days... plus it offered free golf at the nearby country club Following are separate entries of each campground. The photo album will also have separate folders for each of the days spent on the Trace.
