Drove up SR 19, past US 40, through Salt Springs and beyond, 5 miles, then west on FR 66 and 3.5 miles to camp. There was no sign for the campground out on SR 19! Do they make the camp harder to find when they want to slow down the usage? Total of 35 miles. Another tough day The road in (FR 66) was fairly washboarded and slow-going for the first couple miles. Que sera. Been here once before. This is where there were so many Barred Owls. Heard a couple our first day and evening. Found only one other camper here, in 28 sites. Water is from a pump, modern outhouse, no electric, no phone and no internet… and no road noise! Guess Donna and I will have to talk. We camp in a site on the edge of the woods here, so the solar is very good. Lots of crazy Cardinals here. Mating season is in full swing. Very territorial. They love to fly onto the 4runner's rear-view mirrors and peck at their reflection. Then the side windows, then up, under the canoe… peck at the moon roof… then land on the windshield wipers and attack the windshield. Jump up and slide down. It's kinda like an entertainment center. Last year there were also Carolina Wrens trying to nest in the under-carriage of the car. Lots of grazing Cranes this year. Sitting out back one day reading... a Barred Owl flew across the open space right in front of me! Right to left I must have watched him glide for 100 feet. He went right in front of me, about 20' out and never moved a wing the whole time I watched him. Next day we were inundated by a couple men and 7 boys… some wilderness-survival-adventure-church group out of Jacksonville. Plus one other camper. It was kinda fun to see the young boys having fun.
