Drove 54 miles down the Trace to the end (or beginning actually.. mile post 0), in Natchez, MS. Headed north briefly on US 61, then East on US 84/98 about 22 miles to the exit for the recreation area, between Roxie and Meadville, then only 4 miles off of US 84. Total of 86 miles. Clear Springs is fairly remote, our first time here, a good stop after getting off the Trace. Nice to find new places The campground has some fairly steep roads and hillside sites, but no real big deal. Two loops, 22 sites, plus a group camp. Only two other campers here. This 'improved' National Forest Campground has electric and water hook-ups, decent hot showers, beautiful, hilly forest, small lake, picnic and swimming area, spillway and hiking trails. Originally built by the CCC in 1935. Darn! they did some nice work! I do so wish the government would re-establish this program! Put some people to work! There was an abundance of dead wood on the ground, many trees down, thanks to hurricane Isaac a year ago. This was only apparent on one campsite, not a visual impact in general. We were very comfortable here, [though the TV reception was poor (2 channels, cartoons and 'Create') and cell phone/internet/Wi-Fi signal was minimal to unusable] and decided to stay an extra three days so we wouldn't arrive at Fontainebleu State Park and New Orleans on a weekend.

We stayed in Clear Springs in January of 2012 on two different occasions and loved it. We are planning to return in January 2013.
