Drove west on US 41, then north on US 29, west on CR 858, then north on CR 846 to Audubon's Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary. Spent about 4 hours there. Just a fabulous place to walk and spend some hours. Incredible land, swamp, trees, birds. Just about one of the best places overall. The largest stand of ancient Bald Cypress trees in the North America! 600 years old! ***Please see the separate photo album of this wonderful sanctuary.*** Then we went east and north to Immokalee, and continued east, following CR 846, then north on CR 833 to Dinner Island Ranch Wildlife Management Area. Free primitive camping, no water or electric, basic outhouse. It was hunting season for Wild Hog. A little woopee on Friday night but overall a very nice bunch of guys and families. One friendly guy gave us much helpful information regarding other places to free camp. Met a nice couple from Ontario, John & Phyllis… been coming down here for 25 years… knew a lot of great out-of-the-way places. Drove around to the Okaloacoochee Slough State Forest. Found more free and cheap camping. Very nice area. Will return. Saw the Crested Caracara here.
