We left our friend's house and drove 387 miles, both red and blue highways. (See Map for route and roads). Crossed the Missouri River (twice), the Mississippi and the Illinois... all HUGE. Stopped at a rest stop on US 55 north of 'Normal', IL., just south of Pontiac. It was a nice rest area... good vending area for coffee in the morning. It filled up with semis in the evening. Must have been 20 of them in two long rows, in a herringbone pattern... with us in the middle. Most of them leave engines running... we slept sporadically.... to the white noise of diesel engines. Fumes woke me once. We left about 7:45 am. Most truckers gone by then, the picture doesn't do the experience justice. Last days drive.
