Drove across US 98 through Perry and Chiefland, then cut east on CR 326 all the way past US 27 and I-75, coming out on US 40, near Silver River, then east to CR 314 and NE to the camp. 200 miles total. Sat around Monday, set up the solar panels for the first time. Everything worked good. Sun was a bit in and out… just small patches on the ground… pretty heavily wooded site. Had to move the panels around a lot… like every 30 minutes or so. Charged from 93% back up to full in about 3 hours. Without maximum sun. Found a big pine tree that had been cut down on the other side of the campground. Lots of big rounds laying about. Rolled one all the way back to our site and split it up with my axe. Had a nice fire last night, burned pretty good. I thought it was a bit damp but it was full of resin. Burned ok. Always a pleasure to have a fire with found wood. Freebee. Visited our old friend Elaine in Ocala and ate out at Harry's, a popular place but a long wait, even on a Tuesday night. Shrimp tacos were great! The town square was all lit-up for Christmas. Carriage and hay rides going all around downtown. Did a lot of hanging around camp, reading, etc. Using the solar panels several days, not very hard to set-up and take down, only about 5 minutes each way. Went and hiked the Lake Eaton trails one day… very nice, easy trails, total of 3 miles. Good showers here, 30 sites, never full, fair TV, fairly good internet and phone signal. We like this campground. No electric but lots of water spigots. Quite shady in most sites. It's a deal with the showers. Rumor has it the Forest service may put in electric and raise the rates to $15... also raise the time limit to 3 or 4 months (now 30 days). Time will tell.
