SOMETIMES IT'S NOT THE SAME
Drove north on US 27, got off north of Avon Park onto old 17 (Scenic Drive), then SE of Frostproof, (T.S. Wilson Rd.?) around Lake Reedy, to Lake Arbuckle… 25 miles.
Stayed here 11 days mostly to see family. Met some nice folks from Ontario, but others from last year had already left. Not as much social interaction as last year. Had a nice visit from Donna's sister and hubby and Donna's daughter and family. Good campfire and cooking hotdogs in the rain, thanks to Benny! Got a tarp up off the awning, moved the picnic table and made an evening of it. The kids seemed to have fun.
Wild Turkeys walked through the campground most every day. One Tom and a dozen hens. Barred Owls were in the neighborhood and Pileated Woodpeckers and Red-shouldered Hawks plus all the usual wading birds and the Boat-tailed Grackles. Also lots of local boaters and airboat activity, especially on weekends.
Never hiked outside the campground nor in the state forest as we had last year. Lazy, lazy… lots of reading. Spent my birthday and our anniversary here. Went out for a couple less-than-average meals at local restaurants. Enjoyed perusing O'Hara's restored antique cars again… neat place. I could spend money here Drove down to Sebring for our anniversary meal at Outback, that was good.
