Our first camping trip

Saturday, we decided we'd take the new baby out for a night in the campground. Luckily, we live about 20 minutes from a place with full hook-ups (available). We got a site with power and water, which was totally fine. Mike got the AS backed in perfectly, the site was level and wide, got plugged in, awning out , chairs out, dogs settled, and we were off! Cooked something easy in the oven (which we had trouble with. We had ALL of the manuals, except the Cuisinart. Figures, right?! Oh well, minor hiccup.
Our shepherd didn't sleep well (guess she couldn't "patrol" like usual) but the lab had no problem....she snored away. We didn't sleep too great....probably just b/c it's a new place, and we need a memory foam mattress topper.
I did decide this time that it will be disposable utensils from now on. I had wanted the AS to have it's own dishes, and it still will, they're just throw away.
What I learned from our first trip:
1. The fantastic fan really is fantastic! Love the sound for sleeping...didn't have to use the a/c or heat, temp was perfect
2. BRING ALL MANUALS!
3. Keep a corkscrew in the AS.
4. Find someway to contain dogs OUTSIDE (pop-up tent? Add a room to awning?)
5. Use disposables
6. Bring cool and warm weather clothes (it was 58degF when we woke and 82degF when we set up)
7. Don't forget doggie poopie bags!
8. People really like Airstreams!
Maybe I'll get some pics posted this time. Still decorating her so headed out to storage this morning to finish! Sadly, inspiration for a name didn't strike yet. Still trying!

Greetings M 'n E,
For years I've used a pub type pizza oven I stored under the bed. (a bit trickier stowing under in the new AS, but she goes) During operation fits right atop the oven
It works great for lots of things besides pizza. ie; even sunny side up eggs if one were to purchase a set of those back packing pans which the metal handle is separate/comes off. It's great for reheating doggie bag type take back from anothers party. (not the dog my friend) You know the sound of I'm sure..."please take some with you, I've so much food". Crispy is again crispy much better than nuked.
In cooler weather one can save a bit of propane cooking with electric. ~tips me hat, BPosted 09-28-2011 at 09:56 AM by justbrian
