I would prefer to remain flexible and come and go as I please to various sites throughout this huge park. Anyone have experience doing this during peak season? Any advice? Thanks much!
We visited Glacier Natl Park in late August, early Sept of 2014 w/ our 19ft Bambi. This is what I did... Reserved for 1 night at St Mary Campground, very early the next morning (6:00am) headed for Many Glacier CG and got a campsite. Make sure you filter water from the faucets before filling your tank. We had to clean out our in-tank filter. At Many Glacier there is a restaurant, showers, and one of the old lodges just down the road. Worth the $ to eat there.
The only pay showers in Glacier Natl Park are at Many Glacier. We hiked around Many Glacier and drove to Canada, spending the night at the old lodge. We took the free shuttle bus on the Going To The Sun Road. There are trails from GTTS to Many Glacier with a chalet along the way.
Next we relocated the trailer to the western side of the park, camping at Avalanche Creek CG, Non-reservable. We rode trail horses up to Sperry Chalet and spent 2 nights there. This was my favorite part of the entire trip. You can hike up, camp nearby, and still eat the excellent food at the Chalet.
On a future trip, I would leave the trailer at Many Glacier, and use the shuttles to reach the other side of the park. Either camp or stay at a lodge or chalet. It took an entire day to relocate our trailer from the eastern to the western side, and I doubt sites would have been available earlier in the season. You can reserve a parking space type site at Apgar CG, but there are no showers. After hiking, we were ready for a long, hot shower!

Be sure and reserve the minute reservations open.
One other thing... Glacier Natl Park is at a lower elevation than many other mountain parks, which makes hiking easier. Beautiful place! Enjoy!
