Day 13 of the 2010 trip

Posted 09-01-2010 at 09:07 PM by HiHoAgRV

Slick Rock Campground in Moab…a pretty cool place. For an extra $5 a camper can stay past the 11:00 checkout, leaving time for late risers like us to go explore Arches National Park without draggin’ along the ‘Stream.

Arches, wow, whadda place. The entrance is kinda steep but we avoided looking ‘down’ for the short, steep incline. We only could spare a few hours so we hit the biggies. Since we tow with a Dodge “Ram”, here’s a snapshot of the Rams head…

Lots of folks for mid week…2 outta 3 were speaking languages other than English, most were super nice but some were just plain ole rude, elbowing us off the paths so they could pass as they walked side-by-side.

By 1:00 we hitched up and headed toward Monument Valley, a couple of hundred miles down Hwy 191/163. Not the smoothest road, but not awful, it does have some pretty steep, but short climbs. Looking for an RV site, we stopped in Mexican Hat and decided to move further south so tonight we are in Goulding’s Camp Park, inside the Navajo reservation at Monument Valley. Kinda pricey at $46 bucks (ok, I’m cheap…) for full hookups but its ‘Location, Location, Location’ as can be seen from our view…according to my GPS we are 440 feet from Arizona. This is the first time we have run the air conditioner since, well, day 3 in Colorado? I think the humidity is minus 25% and my nose hasn’t worked properly in a week now.

Item of note: The “C” class RV rental folks must be doing some cracking good business, El Monty RV, Camping World RV Rental and something like BearRV’s are everywhere, at least 6 are camped here tonight. Some of the drivers are obviously not that experienced, pushing us onto the shoulder and driving 15 to 20 mph below normal traffic flow speeds.

Tomorrow we head for New Mexico, possibly Albuquerque...but then again, ya never know…
