DAY 107 - Fri May 8
Still very muggy, with tornado watches again today -- mid 80's.
On our way to the Rockabilly Hall of Fame in Jackson TN this morning. It is housed in an old downtown building, and is chock full of the history of Rockabilly music. After we rang the doorbell a very nice lady came and let us in. She explained that it was $5/each for the tour, and that she shows three dvd's, and then you are free to roam the museum. She also shared a couple of personal experiences growing up in Jackson.
The Hall of Fame opened in 2005, and the Rockabilly Highway (US45 betweeen Jackson TN, Carl Perkins' hometown, and Tupelo MS Elvis Presley's hometown) was dedicated in 2008. We were surprised to see the actual defibrillator used on Elvis framed and hanging on the wall. It was a very interresting museum, full of memorabilia and pictures of the people who made Rockabilly Rockabilly -- Carl Perkins, Elvis, The Jordannaires, and many others. On Friday nights, there are musicians who play for a dance at the museum.
We cruised around Jackson and found a very nice laundromat, then headed back to barbeque dinner before the rain.
DAY 108 - Sun May 9
Rain, thunder and lightening all night long. It FINALLY quit raining so we could get packed up and rolling.
We got on the road about 10:30AM -- getting on I-40 to Nashville. The weather chose our route today. We stopped at Loretta Lynn's Country Kitchen, just South of Nashville. We had a great lunch and got back on I-40. At Nashville we caught I-65 N to Louisville, raining on and off along the way.
We found our way to KOA Louisville Metro -- nice park, near the river, full hookup with cable and wifi $34/night. We settled in for two nights.
