DAY 99 - Thu Apr 30
Warm & muggy again. We took a short drive around Slidell to pick up supplies and get the truck washed. Back at the park, I met a lady in the laundry whose husband washes RV's on site. Told hubby about him, negotiated a very fair and reasonable price, and set it up for tomorrow. Baby's gettin' a bath!
DAY 100 - Fri May 1
I am COVERED in bites!!!! Not sure exactly what they're from, but everybody say they're "no-see-ums". No kidding, but they should call 'em "bites-alot-make-itchy-alot''.
We went to the Heritage Jazz Festival in New Orleans -- found our way to City Park, and caught the air-conditioned shuttle to the fair-grounds for the music. A lady caught us in the parking lot, and long story short, we saved $10 a ticket. We met up with some friends from home, and the music and the food was awesome -- gumbo, shrimp, catfish po'boy, praline ice cream, and of course a 'few' beers -- and lots of water!!
We saw Doc Watson, Bonnie Raitt, a New Orleans parade. Quite the sight. Very heart-warming to see a little boy in the parade, dancing along with his walker. That brought tears to my eyes. Once we left the Festival, ears ringing, and sunburned, we got back in the air-conditioning of the truck and headed for Bourbon Street. Well, it took FOREVER to find a parking spot, but when we did, we were within 3 blocks of Lafitte's Blacksmith's Shop. It's like our old 'haunt', and yes, they do claim that it is haunted. We had a great time there on our last visit to New Orleans just before Katrina, and so were glad to spend time there again. All the carriage tours always stop just outside, as Lafitte's is THE oldest bar in the French Quarter.
It was dark when we got back to the trailer, but it still looked great after the bath it got today while we were gone. Hubby walked over to pay the guy who did such a great job.
DAY 101 - Sat May 2
Warm and extremely muggy again - hi's promised 86.
Still very itchy and scratchy, and now big red bumps everywhere!!! Nice.
Very pleased to see our nice clean baby in the morning sunlight.
We decided not to go to the Jazz Festival today, as the line-up is better tomorrow, and today is supposed THE HOTTEST day at the Festival. Instead, we took a drive into Slidell to Olde Towne, to the Camellia Street Market. We sampled gumbo, Cajun shrimp over angel hair pasta, sangria, cold chocolate-covered HUGE strawberries, and looked at some very adorable 7-week-old chocolate lab puppies (hard to resist, but we did!).
We continued on a short drive out through the Irish Bayou, very hard-hit by the hurricane, and back to Slidell.
Our hearts go out to these people here that suffered so much through that and other terrible storms.
DAY 102 - Sun May 3
Warm and muggy again, with a slight breeze, and hi's near 90's.
Back to the Jazz Festival again, where we saw Alan Toussaint and Neil Young!! Decided to leave right after Neil's encore (A Day In The Life - a salute to John Lennon) as it was pouring...... people were taking shelter anywhere and everywhere they could.
DAY 103 - Mon May 4
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Moms!!! (Two of our Moms have the same birthday.)
Warm and muggy again with severe thunder storm warning, and tornado watches in effect today.
Packed up the truck in anticipation of our departure tomorrow. Once that was done, we took a drive into Slidell for ice, and stopped at the Big Easy Diner for a bite to eat. Great food, and lots of it!! (Oh yeah, one more menu for the collection) We also stopped by the Cajun Country General Store and bought some spices and sauces, and other stuff. Great way to end our time here in The Big Easy.
