Travels With Our 59 Tradewind

DAY 92 - Thu Apr 23
It was a warm night, followed by a warm morning, with hi's in the 80's and possibly 90's today. Rolling out of Tucumcari's Cactus RV Park by 9:30AM, heading I-40 east towards Amarillo TX. We got off I-40 at Vega TX for a bite to eat, then followed TX385 south towards Lubbock TX. Nice drive through the country. We followed US84 east towards I-20. We hit a HUGE storm at Justiceville TX with major crosswinds, lightening, then huge blowing rain and dust!! We had to slow down to 50MPH with the four-way flashers and lights on. Crazy people were still zooming by us, but at the slower speed, the trailer wasn't rocking in the wind as much. Storms sure are big in Texas!!! We passed through Waylon Jenning's hometown, Littlefield TX. We arrived at the KOA park in Abilene, and were thankful to make it there. The park is very nice -- $36/night with full hookup including cable and wifi.
DAY 93 - Fri Apr 24
Another warm night followed by another warm, windy morning. Rolling by 10AM, heading US84 out of Abilene towards Austin TX. We caught US183 at Brownwood TX and stopped in Santa Anna to eat, and browsed through a couple of shops. We bought a retro map of the US tablecloth in one shop, and then the lady gave me a true vintage blue and white polka-dot apron. She said every vintage trailer owner needed a real vintage apron to go with it!! She was very nice and wished a safe journey. We tried to get a spot at Pecan Grove again, but they were full due to the Art Fair going on there. Luckily, we got a spot at Austin Lone Star RV Park -- beautiful park with full hookup, incl cable (no wifi), private bathrooms $34/night.
We took a drive to the Green Mesquite for dinner, then stopped in at the Barton Springs Saloon and ran into a friend we met last time we were in Austin. It was great to see him again.
