DAY 74 - Sun Apr 5
After a cool night (we had to put the heater on low for part of the night), the morning is sunny, windy, and hi's in the mid 70's. We piled 3 relatives, and us into the truck and headed up to Kingman, and then on to Grand Canyon West to walk on the Skywalk. We stopped at Rosie's in Arizona (again) for a bite, and then found the road to the site. Let me tell you -- the road is 21 miles of dirt, and rocks, and more dirt and rocks. When you arrive at the end of this road, there are helicopters and airplanes and buses, and a huge parking lot, as well as a gift/sourvenir shop. We discovered, once we got there, we found out that you MUST take a $44 bus ride to the Skywalk, and then pay another $32 to walk on the Skywalk. You are not allowed to drive to the Skywalk, or walk there, you MUST take their bus. Well, the 5 of us (along with other people we spoke with in the gift shop) decided NOT to take the "tour", and instead bought some souvenirs, and then took the long, dusty, dirt road back to the 'highway'. We found our way back to Kingman, and then back 'home'.
Day 81 - Sun Apr 12
Happy Easter !!
We are leaving our Aunt's place in Fort Mohave today, and heading to California for The Price Is Right taping on Tuesday. We are taking the trailer with us, and have a spot reserved at the San Bernardino RV Park. We take AZ 95 South to the I-40, towards San Bernardino. We stopped for a bite at Coco's in Barsow, and then cruised by the Harvey House/ Train Station in Barsow, but it was closed. (Easter Sunday and all). We continued on Old Rte 66, but somehow ended up on CA 138 ,and then CA 18, through the mountains, and passed Lake Arrowhead and then FINALLY we saw San Bernardino. What a crazy ride that was ! ! ! Can understand why they call the stretch of CA18 "The Rim of The World". Could have fallen off any time...... especially with the trailer on the back ! ! Are you kidding me?????
The San Bernardino Rv Park was not a disappointment, full hookup, (no cable), for only $38/night....nice nice showers..
Day 83 - Tues Apr 14
Quiet day yesterday, cruised the town, and found the Wig Wam Motel on Rte 66, quite the place. Looks like it has undergone some improvements, and we wouldn't have minded staying there at all.....
A very early start this morning, 3:30AM getup, and then onto the CRAZY freeway to Los Angeles to the CBS studios for the Price is Right taping. We arrived around 5:30AM, only to be told (once we had our Order of Arrival Pass) to return at 9:30AM for interviewing. We got back at 9 after we found the "Hollywood" sign, and got in line once again. We were interviewed 10 people at a time, and then after more waiting, were allowed entry to the studio. It is much smaller than appears on televison, but the guy right beside us as well as the lady right behind us got called to go up. (Look for me, I'm wearng a pink tshirt on the far side of the stage). We had a great time, and would do it again, except for the CRAZY freeways in California!!!.
DAY 84 - Wed Apr 15
We took a short drive on the CRAZY freeway to Cronoa CA to Inland RV, and met the nicest people there. They gave us a personal tour of the Airstreams currently in their care, and were very surprised to see two units owned by Tim Burton -- both currently under restoration. It seems that Mr. Burton has lost interest in these units since breaking up with Miss Lisa Marie Presley. Quite the experience, and manged to find a couple of parts for our baby.
DAY 85 - Thu Apr 16
Packed up and rolling early, heading back to AZ, and we plan on surprising the relatiives there. (They though we'd be heading North from California)... lol...
We left San Bernardino heading East , on I-10, then US 95 N to Needles CA., then crossing over to AZ 95 to Fort Mohave. We checked into the Moon River RV Resort, and plan to surprise our Aunt tomorrow morning.
