Travels With Our 59 Tradewind - DAY 43

Posted 03-05-2009 at 12:25 PM by gypsygirl1

Time to catch up with our travels. We've been out of access area for a couple of weeks, so here goes:

SUN FEB 22 - Day 32
Yesterday, we attended the Cortez Village Fish Festival along the Gulf, just outside Bradenton. There was a Pirate Ship, complete with strolling pirates, begging for your drink or food. Very entertaining with lots of food (alligator, crab, shrimp, mullet -- all delicious), lots of people, art, crafts and fun. The weather was beautiful, and we all had a great time.
We departed Winter Quarters Encore Park in Bradenton today and moved 10 miles down the road to Lake Manatee State Park, site of the TCT 89th Winter Convention.
As we left the Encore park, we neglected to dispose of our full bag of garbage that was sitting on the tongue as we drove. When we got to Lake Manatee, after travelling through a couple miles of construction, we found our full bag of garbage hanging on by a thread of plastic. It was hooked to the crank, and we could not believe that it was STILL HANGING ON ! ! !

WED FEB 25 - DAY 35
We went to the beach at Treasure Island today. Beautiful day for the beach, however I discovered that my new camera was broken and I was unable to take any pictures. Plan to get a new one as soon as possible. The beach was fabulous with lots of sunshine, but not too hot. The water was cold, only about 62 deg, so no one went swimming.

SAT FEB 28 - Day 38
The TCT put on a great pot luck dinner last night with sooo much food that we were all stuffed afterwards. We brought sweet potatoes and cupcakes for dessert. There was music and dancing afterwards and everyone had a great time.
There are about 50 trailers here for the Convention with an open house scheduled for today.

SUN Mar 1 - Day 39
A rainy morning today, but no one seems to mind after the beautiful weather we had for the entire weekend. The Open House was a huge success yesterday, with an estimate of about 500 people touring the trailers. We were anxious to see the inside of the Spartanette that arrived on Thursday. Quite the beauty, and the inside is truly vintage in every detail.
We all had bbq pork, green beans with pork and fried corn for dinner following the Open House, with the best peach cobbler ever for dessert!!
Mostly everyone is packing up and rolling out today, but we've opted to stay for one more night, and hope for better travelling weather tomorrow.

MON MAR 2 - Day 40
Cool, but suunny morning, and we're packed up and rolling by 11:30AM. As we travelled from Lake Manatee, we passed through Pebble Beach where we saw multitudes of colourful golf carts darting along the roads. There were even road signs to allow the golf carts the right of way!
We made it to Cedar Key FL at Sunset Isle RV Park, right on the water and were surprised to see fellow TCT'rs already there. We went for dinner and sunset at Coconut's Rusy Rim Restaurant where the view was spectacular and the food was very good.

WED MAR 4 - DAY 42
We left Cedar Key yesterday, and stopped overnight at Tall Oaks RV Park just outside Pensacola FL. It was an OK park, ($25 / night) with clean bathrooms and hot showers.
Just North of New Orleans, at the I-10/I-12 split, we heard a terrible, terrifying noise. We weren't sure if it was us, or a passing truck, but as soon as we pulled off, we found out it was indeed us.
Part of the bellypan at the front of the trailer, just behind the tongue had peeled back like a banana. In the process of the peeling, it took out the propane line to the trailer and dragged it for awhile!! Thank goodness we didn't have the propane on to run the fridge as we travelled. Some people do. We don't. Good thing.
We taped and bungee'd everything back together as best we could and rolled on down the road. We were aiming for Lafayette LA or better, and so we decided to stay near Lafayette. We landed at the KOA Lafayette after being turned away by Frog City RV Park. The KOA is very nice with a small lake, extremely clean facilities and hot, hot showers.
Hubby is busy today doing the repairs himself, after visiting the local hardware store for necessaries, and we're hoping to move out towards Austin TX tomorrow.
