Day 41 - Monday Sep 6 2010
Labour Day !!
Cool night followed by a cool, but sunny morning. As soon as we got on I-6, we spotted an Airstream heading west, and then about an hour later, a little Bambi also heading west.
As we got to the Utah state line, we saw a newer Airstream being pulled by a red pickup, covered in dust, probably heading home from Burning Man.
Later, as we were crossing the Salt Flats, on I-80, we spotted a newer Airstream being towed by a dark pickup. We all waved and blinked.
We crossed the Salt Flats, caught just a glimpse of the Great Salt Lake, then on through Salt Lake City. We headed south on I-15 to US 6, then west.
We continued on through the awesome scenery along US 6 until it joined I-70. We passed a fire on top of one of the mountains, but we think it was a controlled burn. We'd seen signs earlier. We stopped in Green River Utah at Shady Acres RV Park -- full hookup $30, with cable and wifi and beautiful bathrooms.

Day 42 - Tue Sep 7 2010
Another cool, sunny morning with hi's in the 80's today.
We're heading to Canon City Colorado to the Starlite Class Campground today!!
We got away by 9:45AM.
We spotted a 'Squarestream' on I-70 heading west at MM 209. It was a big wide median, but we managed to spot each other and blink and wave.
A few minutes later at MM 212. we spotted a newer Airstream heading East pulled by a silver pickup. No blink. No wave.
We got off I-70, and got on US 50 -- "The Loneliest Road in America". Quite the beautiful drive through the mountains and canyons. We stopped at the Colorado Welcome Center in Fruita CO and had lunch in the trailer. Later we stopped in Gunnison for lunch at a little cowboy bar and grill. Back on US 50 through more mountains and then Monarch Pass -- over 11,000 ft elevation !! ! We stopped at the summit and we both felt weird when we got out of the truck. We were both dizzy and very light-headed and breathless.
Monarch Pass is right on the Continental Divide, where the run-off water from the mountains will either flow east to the Atlantic Ocean or west to the Pacific Ocean. Quite the spectacular views, and quite the drive back down the other side of the pass.
We finally made it Starlite Class Campground at the Royal Gorge road, just outside Canon City CO. The owner, Sylvia, came running out of the office welcoming us and so excited that we were finally there. She didn't even know we were coming. It was truly fun to be so welcomed.
More on the Starlite in the next update.
