Installed a new Victron BMV battery monitor with shunt and Bluetooth dongle.
This is a fairly easy install. Biggest thing you have to do is make sure that all the (-) negative battery leads are on the load side of the monitor shunt. This is best done by running a wire straight from the (-) negative battery post to the shunt and then a wire from the load side of the shunt to a distribution bus bar where all the other (-) negative leads will attach.
Once that is done and you have found an acceptable location for the shunt to be mounted then all that is left is to attach the small fused (+) positive lead to the shunt b1 connector and to a battery (+) positive power source.
The Victron BMV head unit is powered and receives its data by a 6 wire RJ 12 phone cable. Airstream prewires there units with a piece of 4 pair cat5 cable for an optional solar controller. I could utilized 3 pairs of this cat5 cable and added RJ12 ends to it to allow me to mount my head unit close to the tank monitor system, BUT the location I want to mount it has a structural ribs there.
An alternate location to mount the monitor will be above the Living area TV. I can easily fish a wire to this location and the location will allow for easy access to the monitor but also not allowing it to be in the way.
Ok...... three days later, I got the monitor mounted in the wall above the TV. Data cable is ran from the shunt under the dinette bench, under the lounge up the refrigerator compartment and into the microwave cabinet, and to the back of the gauge. The Bluetooth dongle is mounter behind the TV (out of site) and its Cable enters the microwave cabinetry the same way the coax cable and A/V cable does.
