Upgraded my batteries from (2) Group 27 12 volts to 2 Trojan T105 6 volts. This swap was mandated by waking up one morning at Stone Mtn GA campground to the smell of sulfur/rotten eggs, yep I officially cooked on of my factory interstate batteries. The water level was check religiously so I am going to blame the factory single stage charger. Before I installed the new Trojans I installed a new Progressive Dynamic 4655v charger converter. This unit is a 4 stage charger that monitors your batteries need for charging and charges and conditions the batteries as they need it. The instructions included with the charger made this swap from the factory unit a piece of cake. The Battery install however was not as plug and play as the converter. This swap required that the battery box have an extension ring, and longer thread rod added to accommodate the taller T105’s. These extension rings can be purchased from a few online venders, but Hey, in my normal fashion I decided to build mine myself and probably spend twice as much!?!
The ring was made from metal pieces available at you local Big Box Store, Orange or Blue does not matter they both have the parts. I’m not going to give an exact parts list because I do not want to snuff anyone’s creative spirit, you should be able to work from my photos and your battery box and maybe computer with something better than I did.
I welded all the parts together to build the box but I suppose bolts and angle brackets would work.
AS A SIDE NOTE. please fit your extender ring to your battery box. My battery box was neither square or welded in straight, so there needs to be a little custom adjustment.
