Marty’s 2019 23FB Lift

Here’s a post on the custom 3” lift I helped Marty do on his 2019 Flying Cloud 23FB. Marty contacted me on the forum and informed me he lives less than 30 minutes away from me and asked would I be willing to help him with his lift project. I told him I would be more than glad to help.
His 23FB came equipped with Dexter #11 axles and required 11” long lift blocks vs my 2014 23D trailer which is equipped with #10 axles and required 10” blocks.
The lift kit was fabricated from 3”x 3” square steel stock with 1/4” wall thickness.
Holes were drilled on my drill press using slow speed, steady pressure and cutting oil. We used dexters PDF layout of the bolt hole spacing, but confirms the measurements on the trailer before drilling.
Before we did any work to the trailer we established some alinement measurements so that everything would be bolted back up nice and straight. We measured off the fresh water tank cover to a line marked on each axle. We worked on the front axle first because it was close to the water tank and was going to be harder to get the bolts in place.
With the trailer connected to the tow vehicle it was raised and placed on jack stands under the rear axle. Once on jack stands the tires were removed from the front axle.
With a floor jack under the front axle we then loosened front axle mounting bolts being carful not remove them.
Once the bolts were loosened on both sides we supported one side on the axle with the floor jack and removed the bolts. With the bolts removed we carefully lowered the axle just enough to slide the lift block into place.
Once the lift block was in place we installed the new grade 8 mounting bolts through the side and bottom of the lift block, but did not tighten them all the way down.
Then it’s was over the the other side of the trailer to repeat the process of carefully lowering the axle with the floor jack enough to slide the lift blocks in place.
Once both sides have lift blocks and bolts in place you can start to snug everything up and check alinement.
On Marty’s unit we used 2” long 5/8” fine thread grade 8 bolts and grade 8 nylon locking nuts. We had to cut the front bolt on each block shorter once installed to allow for enough clearance for the shock.
Basically once the front axle was complete we just repeated the process on the rear axle.
This was my second time doing a lift like this and Marty’s first, but we still managed to complete the project in right at 2 hours for the layout and drilling holes one afternoon , and 2.5 hours to install the blocks on the trailer. I thought that was not bad for two guys on a Saturday morning.
