a better rv for less

Posted 02-06-2010 at 06:34 PM by crestonrv

got some time in on her today decided to get her towable! new pigtail with 7 way bargman plug. eliminated round pin connector at front wall, that was a brilliant idea lets add an extranious plug at front wall so we have even more problems with light and brake wiring:-) is gone now. sockets were rotted in tail lights so pulled them out ground off rivets holding sockets to buckets and riveted in new 1s i swiped off a pair of contemporary lights had hanging on wall, probably cost me more than going to auto parts and buying just sockets but the roads are icy and wasn't that motivated. several marker lights n/op could fix but decided don't want to make a habit of working on the clearance lights so ordered all new 1s will r&r next weekend, then i can seal them at top edge. also had to order 2 new sockets for backups. sure i could pull them out sand inside and clean them up and sure they will work again but experiance has taught me that they become an ongoing project when you try to save them. and all new clearnce lights and backup sockets, they cost less than 50.00
the tail lights on the other hand are expensive so fix them. brakes actually work but ordered new backing plate assys anyway. hubs are good must have been replaced at some point in the not to distant past, 12.00 ea. to have turned at cumberland auto parts, brake and armature face (what a deal !) i do a lot of bussiness there. seems to me that most of the time the cheap route is the most expensive in the long run.
