2008 Quechee VT Balloon Adventure
We had such a great time at the 2007 Balloon Rally with some of our NEU friends that we signed up early on for the 2008 Quechee VT Balloon Festival. The festival is held is a beautiful location with lots of local attractions to keep folks interested and busy. The good restaurants, shops and hiking in Quechee Gorge were some of the things that encouraged us to come back and attend the festival again. Plus we decided that we would finally spring for a hot air balloon ride! It's been on my life list of things to do for a while - I'd just been too cheap and chicken to actually do it.
The balloons were scheduled to fly both in the mornings and early evenings. On Saturday morning the wind shifted the balloons so they came in low over our trailers. It was a beautiful sight to see, our Airstreams shining in the morning sun with the colorful balloons floating above them. Some of them even landed in the parking field between the lines of cars.
One hovered only about 5 feet over the top of our new TV for a minute or two.
Later on that morning a gentleman saw me sitting outside of my trailer and he came up to me and said excitedly "Wow, so many Airstreams! Do you guys know each other?" I replied: "No we don't, I'm as surprised as you are to see them all lined up in a row."
On Sunday morning Leon, Patty and I took flight! The ride was just over an hour long and was very peaceful. I was surprised that I wasn't frightened, it's not like being in an airplane at all! This adventure was well worth the $$$$. It is now part of my forever memories......

My home town
Wow, I was so glade to read about your group going to the Quechee Balloon Fest. I lived in that area for 35 years and enjoyed every one of the festivals, really brings back some memories. My wife and her grandfather took one of the balloon rides (they crashed in some trees in Royalton) they loved it and it all worked out in the end. I wish I could have been there with you guys.
Great photos, how many units went with you?Posted 07-02-2008 at 05:22 PM by higgy116 -
