ALONE WITH CRANES & OWLS
Drove north SR 19, 5 miles to FR 66, then west 3 miles on (decent) gravel road to campground. Only 8 miles total. Quiet camp! We are the only ones here!, except for the host dude. There is a Lake Delancy WEST which is for OHV trails but they were not bothersome at all. Maybe on a weekend. Rules are they drive out onto trails the other way… not around the campgrounds. 27 campsites in this 'east half', modern pit toilets, one hand pump (water tasted good), no electricity, no cell signal (Verison), no internet, no TV. aaaahhhhhhhh! Sat 3 whole days and watched the Cardinals attack our car mirrors and windows. The Carolina Wrens were determined to build a nest up under the hood, or in the canoe, or under the trailer. The cranes were loud and dancing in the marsh. Barred Owls were vocal day and night, liked the woods all around us.
Hear about a 95 year old woman, who lived in the tiny community across the lake. She had never been further away than Hwy 19, just 3 miles down the road. wow.
