We drove west from Chattahoochee, past Sneads, to SR 69 and turned south to Bloutstown, 3 miles east on SR 20 to Bristol, then 12 miles south on SR 12, into the Apalachicola National Forest. Camped at Camel Lake. Total of 50 miles. What a treat and a great find! A small lake in the forest.. only 10 sites, 4 with electric. Plus a decent bathroom and hot showers! No-one was there! Got an electric site. Most smaller 'hunt camps' are full of hunters this time of year. Then my life-long friend Jim showed up and we spent Thanksgiving and Donna's birthday there. Jim's just a year retired and is 7 months out from Oregon in his truck camper. Had some cool nights down into the 30's... a little rain... then some really nice days. Had some good hikes on trails but had to exercise some caution as this was the 4-day gun season for deer. Down here, people hunt deer with dogs... lots of barking and howling in the woods. Lots of hunters driving through asking... "seen a dog?" Had some good fires here. No signal.
