a new day

I think we crossed a major hurdle here the other day, when my partner stuck his head into the Globetrotter and said something like "wow, this looks so nice, where are we going to take it first?". When I recovered from the shock, I said I thought we'd just take it up the highway to Gualala Point Park, to see how stuff works, and be close enough to home in case he couldn't stand it. THERE, he could just walk home, if need be. His suggestion: Joshua Tree in January. The back story here is that I had talked him into letting me buy the Airstream 8 years ago, when we lived in Oakland and were going to remodel our house. My bright idea was that when the house was up on casissons and disconnected from utilities, we could stay in the Globetrotter in the back yard. We didn't do the remodel, instead buying a tiny weekend house on the coast, but we kept the trailer, in the backyard. The Airstream was a project I worked on when I had time and energy, and it was something of a bone of contention between us. When we moved to the tiny weekend house full time, the Airstream followed, living off site at a place for RVs that also removed it from my partner's reality. Now, with new flooring, a functioning electrical system, and cool leaf-print linen upholstery, we're ready to explore, with the Airstream in tow.
