Back for our annual excursion to Anza Borrego State Park campground. Brought the 8-in Celestron telescope this time. But weather turned bad, wind storm, and we had to button-down. Fortunately, the Airstream is very stable in wind. The storm lasted all night and into the morning...those in tents really suffered. But, invariably, when there is inclement weather in the desert, rainbows appear.
We don't use our awning that often, but worse, do not use the Zip Dee Owner's Manual. While setting-up this day, we (I) bent the aft main arm tube. (MJ warned me I was doing it wrong, but I was too stubborn to listen.) So, while buttoning-up, the aft arm jammed and we could not get it retracted. Fortunately, a couple other campers saw us struggling. We disconnected the arm at the base and used the weight of three men to retract the arm (not quite that bad, but close).
I called Zip Dee after returning and got Randy. He helped with order and a couple weeks later, had the replacement parts...easy as pie. From now on, I use the Owner's Manual at set-up time...it's simple, unless you do it wrong!

Just fine. And close to hiking trails. It's the Anza-Borrega State Park. Yeah, we used to camp at the nearby Palm Canyon Resort, which is in town and ok...does offer a pool. But enjoy the more natural setting offered by the state park...they do have hook-ups for power and water. And, it's less expensive.Posted 02-14-2009 at 11:06 AM by chbocca
