We camped at Upper Pines in Yosemite Valley. We came in the back way - from East Fork, north on US395 to CA120 (Tioga Pass Rd). Up the steep hill and rested at Ellery Lake at 9538 ft altitude. (No problem with the Commander pulling the Bambi, just let engine run a bit before turning off to help cool it off.)
We were excited to get to the valley, so did not stop much as we made our way past the many beautiful (and less crowded) spots in the park. But next time, we will take advantage of these less frequented areas.
We were warned that the Upper Pines campsite itself was crowded, and indeed it was. Upper Pines is rather dark, in contract to the breathtaking views around the Valley...but it's convenient, walking distance to village.
And the valley itself, just so many beautiful views.
