Design a camper around this-- operation finish wall covering removal!

Posted 08-23-2009 at 08:40 PM by bookstax
Weather this weekend was quite conducive to working in the Argosy for pretty much the whole two days. I lost part of Saturday so I could drive my dad to pick up his camper from the dealer about an hour away. In return, I got to look at one of the new Shasta vintage-style trailers on the lot and concluded that my 34-year-old Argosy is in better shape!

Our two goals for this weekend were removal of wall covering and to start with removal of the orange trim from the dinette and bathroom area. This strip is damaged in enough places that it makes more sense to replace it. Orange is no longer available, so we'll find another color later. The pieces literally crumbled with the slightest pressure.

But, the c-channel that holds the trim is in pristine condition.

We got all but one part of the wall covering removed, including the REALLY hard area in the bathroom that is to the left of the closet. I had to contort myself around and over the sink to get it all off. I am too fat and tall, however, to get the pieces off the bottom of the pocket door. I don't fit inside the bathroom if I am sitting on the floor to reach it.

We even got the covering inside the cabinets. This trailer had a strange inconsistency. The cabinets above the bed were different. One had wood laminate on the bottom and the other had vinyl. Now, we'll be removing the glue residue and willing our gouges with wood filler. Then, sanding. I bought stain today as we decided to stain the "bulkhead" walls instead of papering or painting them.

We also regressed a little on the fabric we've chosen. Essentially we're starting from scratch... heaven help me!
