Part 2 - Not the Full Monty, it’s the Rear Admiral

Frame and Outrigger Repairs

With all the bottom wraps off, I saw that nearly every outrigger, the lower exterior corner was rusted through. None were broken off, which I understand is actually common. I will go into some detail on the outrigger repair, since the only information I could find was that people cut them off and welded on new ones during a Full Monty. It would have been tough to weld all the way to the top with the subfloor still in place, and since there was enough solid...

Diagnosis and Disassembly

It was late in the 2015 camping season when I noticed some floor rot in the bedroom below the back window. I did a bit of caulking at the rear bumper area but would wait until spring to tackle the project. This would turn out to be more complicated and wear on longer than expected.

For those of you doing a Full Monty restoration, you have my heartfelt sympathy. I would come to refer to this project as the Rear Admiral. The trailer is a 1979 31’...

Vent modifications - Part 3

Posted 03-31-2013 at 04:57 PM by blickcd

As I said in part one, the installation of a Fantastic Vent has been well documented here on the forums. It is even really common to install one in the bedroom, and on newer trailers they are standard equipment in the bedroom.

However, when I decided to install a powered vent in my bedroom, I knew I didn't want a Fantastic Vent.

I will agree they are great fans, but since it is the bedroom, I didn't want a skylight overhead. While I considered painting the lid a dark...

Vent modifications - Part 2

Posted 03-31-2013 at 10:15 AM by blickcd

I wanted to make some sort of improvement to the hehr light/vent combo located in the galley area. The location makes for some limited choices.

When the TV antenna is lowered, the back end rests almost on top of the vent lid. Not a good location for any type of vent whose lid would hinge open at an angle and interfere with the lowered antenna. Then I looked through my pile of old parts and got an idea.

The first photo shows some vent parts I had laying around. The vent...

Vent modifications - Part 1

Posted 03-31-2013 at 07:30 AM by blickcd

My trailer had three original hehr light/vent combo units when I bought it in 2004. They always worked better as lights than vents, but even then the 3-way switch was flaky and is an expensive item to replace.

I replaced the original vent in my living room with a Fantastic Vent. Normally I like to keep an original look with my trailer whenever possible, but since the Fantastic is standard equipment on newer trailers, it didn't seem like sacrilege to install one.

Now the...
