Last weekend for a while

Posted 05-29-2011 at 05:55 PM by MrUKToad (You can't tow that with that!)

We took Towed Haul up to Point Farms Provincial Park, on the shores of Lake Huron, for the weekend. The trip was about 185 Kms (115 miles) each way, pretty flat and for once, largely wind free.

It was just the two of us, fairly lightly loaded, and we decided to try to improve on the awful gas consumption figures we had on the trip to the Finger Lakes.

On the way up we started Towed Haul with half a tank of water and the Sienna with a full tank of fuel and followed roads...

NY Finger Lakes

Posted 05-24-2011 at 08:49 PM by MrUKToad (You can't tow that with that!)

We're just back from a four day trip to Taughannock Falls State park, NY. I have no significant photos, except of the scenery, but I'll let you all know how the Sienna coped with four people and a reasonably well loaded 28' International Serenity.

We're a little low at the back of the Sienna when fully loaded, something I shall have to ask Andy Thompson about; I'm sure it's just an adjustment required. There isn't a lot of scope for twisting the safety chains without limiting the...

Shakedown No 3

Posted 05-15-2011 at 09:07 PM by MrUKToad (You can't tow that with that!)

I wanted to maintain 100km/h and started off using the automatic transmission. At 100, the gears were changing every 5 seconds; up down, up down. I tried it on cruise and that made it worse; the engine alternately racing and...

The Beefed Up Hitch

Wow!

Posted 05-08-2011 at 09:49 PM by MrUKToad (You can't tow that with that!)

I just had a look underneath the Sienna to see the mysterious "strengthening" my friends at Can Am RV had applied to my hitch receiver setup.

Wow!

It's no wonder that the outwardly flimsy Hidden Hitch can pull our 28' International with ne'er a twitch.

I won't go into details because I'm not sure how many of Can Am's trade secrets I'd be giving away, suffice it to say that the modified hitch receiver package is a whole lot stiffer than the...
