Frame off

Pretty nasty work, really, but it was a relief to get the weight of the shell off of what was left of the chassis. I had to rebrace the shell afterwards to get it straight, but getting the chassis out from under it was a huge milestone so far.

The Chassis

The first order of business, and it was too obvious, was the chassis. The existing chassis was rusted out so bad that all of the outriggers on the curb side (and others) has long since rusted off. The main channel curbside just forward of the wheel wells had bent and twisted. Because the shell wasn't attached to anything much on the curb side, when the main rail bent, the shell suffered no damage. This my Airstream. There are many like it, but this one is mine. I found this baby on Craigslist, paid $1200 for it and am in for a total renovation, beginning with a new chassis.
